Non-Traditional Scholarships Awarded
September 5th, 2007
The
Rockwall ISD Education Foundation, Inc. is proud to identify Mr. Randy Smith, as
a corporate supporter of the Education Foundation. Mr. Smith, President/Owner of
DFW Plumbing, Inc. in Sunnyvale contacted the Education Foundation to offer
three scholarships of $500 each to students planning to attend either a trade
school or technical institution rather than a four-year college. Rockwall High
School was contacted and three recipients were named. The Education Foundation
President Dr. Ron Evans and Superintendent Dr. Gene Burton recognized Mr. Smith
at the Board of Directors meeting held in September.
The three recipients were Bertha Majia, Francesca Arenas, and Lillian Ene. Ms.
Majia plans to attend an art institute for photography. Ms. Arenas is pursuing a
position as a chef. Ms. Ene will attend a Junior College.
Mr. Smith stated that he understands that there are many reasons students pursue
a trade school rather than a four-year institution, and he wants to provide that
initial financial support which can make the difference in the life of a
Rockwall student. The Education Foundation was able to facilitate the awarding
of these scholarships.
